I made a quick visit to the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden during my recent business trip to Washington D.C. The museum is part of the Smithsonian Museum (aka National Mall) focusing on international and contemporary art. It is a small circular bldg and one can easily see the entire collection in 3-4 hours.
I always enjoy modern art because of the sensibilities and quirky sense of humor of the artists on display. This exhibit did not disappoint, in terms of the quirk and unusual factor. A visit to a moderm museum can be jarring but never boring. Here are some of my favorite pieces.
Andy Warhol's self portrait:
An anatomically correct giant sculpture.
An August Rodin piece. I guess he was a fan of yoga. How else would you explain how he knew this pose? (I call it the balancing crow). :-)
An Alexander Calder sculpture, Critter with Mobile Top. It looked really spooky when viewed in person.
